摘要 1305052 Vapour depositing selenium XEROX CORP 26 March 1970 [3 April 1969] 14652/70 Heading C7F [Also in Division H1] A discontinuous layer of selenium or an alloy thereof, e.g. 75 Se, 25 Te or 60 Se, 40 As, 0À01 to 2À0 microns thick is vapour deposited on a softenable surface at a temperature above 90‹C, and having a melt viscosity of 10<SP>3</SP> to 10<SP>9</SP> poises to form a photosensitive member. The softenable layer may be on a substrate of glass, metal, paper, plastics and it may be electrically conductive or carry an electrically conductive coating of e.g. tin oxide, copper iodide or Al. Several materials are described for the softenable layer 12, the preferred ones only being silicon resins, polystyrene-olefin copolymers, polystyrene, epoxy resins, phenol-formaldehyde resins, a polydiphenylsiloxone, a polyadipate, acrylic resins, chlorinated hydrocarbons, polyvinyl resins, and waxes. The selenium vapour may be deposited directly on the substrate or it may be carried by an inert gas, e. g. nitrogen. Molten Se is allowed to drip through a valve formed by a rod 26 onto heated glass balls 21 which vapourize the Se. The inert gas is introduced at 27 to carry the vapour to the outlet 28, which may be heated at 29 to form a red vapour. In a modification, Fig.3, (not shown), the vapours may be heated at exit by a propane gas flame.
