[Also in Division D1] A composition suitable for use in the treatment of fibres comprises a solution or dispersion comprising a polymer or copolymer of an ethylene compound, a polymer or copolymer of an ester or a polymer or copolymer of an epoxide, an organic titanium compound and at least one organosilane which is an unsaturated silane, epoxy silane or amino silane. The copolymer or polymer may be of vinyl acetate, esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid, vinyl chloride, styrene, butadiene, acrylonitrile or vinylidene chloride, a polyester obtained from succinic anhydride, phthalic anhydride and propylene glycol, a polyester derived from maleic or fumaric acid, a polycarbonate, a cycloaliphatic diepoxide or an epoxide based on bisphenol A. The titanium compound may be octylene glycol titanate, titanium acetonyl acetonate, butyl-, propyl-, isopropyl- or ethyl- 2 - hexanol - titanate, titanium lactate, triethanolamine titanate, oleyl-, stearyl-, vinyl- or allyl titanate or a derivative obtained by exchanging the alcohol of a titanium ester with a saturated or unsaturated alcohol or enol, e.g. the compound obtained by the reaction of tetraisopropyltitanate and 0À1-4 mols. of acetylacetone or ethyl acetyl acetate. The silane may be gamma-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxy silane, vinyl trimethoxy ethoxy silane, vinyl trichlorosilane, 3,4-epoxycyclohexyl - ethyltrimethoxysilane, glycidyl oxypropyl trimethoxysilane, gamma - aminopropyltriethoxysilane or a diaminosilane. The composition may also contain a chlorosilane, e.g. a vinyl dichloroalkoxy silane or vinyl chlorodialkoxy silane, a chromium complex, e.g. the chloride of chromium methacrylate, an acid, e.g. acetic or hydrochloric acid, to adjust the pH, and a stabilizer, e.g. isopropyl alcohol, hydroxy acids, e.g. glycollic acid, a plasticizer for polyvinyl acetate or polyvinyl chloride, e.g. phthalates, phosphates, adipates, sebacates or esters of hydroxycarboxylic acids, or epoxide plasticizers, e.g. epoxide triglycerides or alkyl epoxide stearates, a wetting agent, e.g. a cationic compound such as an amide solubilized by an acid, pelargonamide, alkylimidazoline derivatives, fatty acid amides, tetraethylene pentamine, trimethylstearyl ammonium chloride and fatty acid amides in the form of their salts with acetic or methacrylic acid, or non-ionic substances such as polyglycols having a molecular weight of 20,000 or more or polyglycols obtained by polymerization of polypropylene glycol with polyethylene oxides or of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide with fatty acids, fatty alcohols or alkyl phenols, and hardening agents for epoxy resins, e.g. amines, acid anhydrides and amides of amino fatty acids. Aqueous systems may have a solids content of 1-6% by weight of which 1-5% by weight is polymer or copolymer, 0À1-2À5% by weight is organic titanium compound, 0À05-2% by weight is silane and where applicable 0À1-1% by weight is plasticizer and 0À05-1% by weight is wetting agent. |
