[Also in Division A5] Novel compounds, including isomeric mixtures, of formula where R is H or CH 3 and the dotted line configuration represents one double bond in any one of the positions occupied by the dotted lines are prepared by reacting a Grignard reagen RCH 2 MgX (X=Cl, Br or I) with 6-ketodihydrocitronellol, 6,7-epoxydihydrocitronellol or an acyl ester of either having up to 6 carbon atoms in the acyl moiety, and dehydrating the resulting diols of formula Diols of Formulµ II and III where R=CH 3 are isolated.</p> |
