Substituted tetrahydrodibenzo-[b, d]-pyrans of the formula wherein R is H, halogen or C 1-10 alkyl, are prepared by treatment of compounds of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is chlorine or bromine with potassium tertanylate in an inert aromatic hydrocarbon solvent. The compounds of Formula I are novel provided that when R is in the 3-position it is not n-amyl. Starting materials of Formula II wherein R is 3-namyl, 3-[hexyl-(2)], 3-[3- methyl-octyl-(2)], 3-chloro, and 3-methyl and R<SP>1</SP> is chlorine are prepared by reaction of the corresponding compounds of the formula with HCl and zinc chloride in methylene chloride. Intermediates of Formula IV wherein R is 3-chloro, 3-methyl and 3-[hexyl-(2)] are prepared by reaction of trams-paramenthadiene- (2,8)-ol-(1). With the corresponding 5-substituted-1,3-dihydroxybenzene. Pharmaceutical preparations containing compounds of Formula I are used as psychotomimetic agents, sedatives, analgesics and bactericides and may be administered orally or parenterally.</p> |
