The method involves determining a travel recommendation to reduce fuel consumption of motor vehicle (1) and determining property of fuel-related road on route ahead of vehicle, such that consumption-related road fuel consumption of motor vehicle property is affected. The driving recommendation is determined as function of consumption-relevant feature on upcoming road trip route of vehicle. The driver is informed about driving recommendation. An independent claim is included for driver assistance system.
