In a two-ratio epicyclic gear comprising two sun-ring trains 30, 40 having respectively rings 33, 43, carriers 32, 42 and suns 31, 41, the sun 31 is fast with an input shaft 1, the carrier 32 is fast with an output shaft 4 and the sun 41, the planet carrier 42 is fast with the ring 33, and, for low and high reduced ratios, the rings 33, 43 are band braked at 133, 132. The above low and high ratios are used as 1st and 2nd in a five Forward and one Reverse ratio gear comprising the trains 30, 40 and further sun-ring trains 20, 10, 50. The trains 20, 10 have respectively rings 23, 13, carriers 22, 12, and suns 21, 11, the carrier 22 being fast with the ring 13 and the ring 43, the carrier 12 being fast with the ring 23, and the sun 21 being fast with the input shaft 1. For 3rd and 4th reduced and 5th direct ratios, respectively the ring 23 is band braked at 131, the sun 11 is band braked at 130, and the trains 10-40 are locked for direct drive therethrough by fluid pressure multi-disc clutching at 8 the sun 11 to the input shaft 1. Reverse is by braking the ring of the train 50, the carrier 52 and sun 51 of which are respectively fast with the output shaft 4 and the ring 33 of the train 30. The above gear is arranged in series with a two-speed range-shift gear 100 to provide ten Forward and two Reverse ratios. The rangeshift gear 100 comprises two sun-ring trains 110, 120 having respectively a common ring 113, carriers 112, 122 and suns 111, 121, the sun 121 being fast with the output (intermediate) shaft 4 and the carrier 112, and the carrier 122 being fast with a final driven shaft 7. The rangeshift gear 100 provides Reduced and Overdrive therethrough respectively by band-braking the ring 113 at 136 and the sun 111 at 135. |
