PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for performing space frequency block coding in an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) wireless communication system are provided to correctly estimate a channel in all channel conditions regardless of a channel information feedback. CONSTITUTION: An OFDM-MIMO(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing-Multi Input Multi Output) system(100) performs a closed loop mode. The OFDM-MIMO system includes a transmitter(110) and a receiver(130). The transmitter includes a channel encoder(112), a multiplexer(114), a power loading unit(116), a plurality of SFBC(Space Frequency Block Coding) encoding units(118), and a plurality of serial vs parallel(S/P) converter(120). The transmitter includes a plurality of eigen-beamformers(122), a plurality of IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) units(124), and a plurality of transmission antennas. The channel encoder encodes data according to a channel quality indicator transmitted from the receiver.
