The invention relates to a method for assembling and/or starting machine units in installations, such as machine beds (1) and/or roll stands (2), e.g. in an existing production line of a hot-rolling mill. In order to minimize especially the downtimes during assembly, the machine bed (1) is prefabricated and the required or cooperating machine units are prefabricated and preassembled or assembled on site next to the production line (3), whereupon said machine units are inserted into the production line (3) as a complete structural unit including the bed block (1) and allocated driving members, control elements, fastening elements or similar, pipes and cables required for operation, and additional pieces of equipment.
