This invention is a system for reducing central sleep apnea (CSA) in which certain methods of increasing a patient's re-breathing during periods of the sleep cycle are used. The over-oxygenation which typically results from the over-breathing period can be reduced, thus reducing the compensating under-breathing period, and effectively reducing the loop gain associated with the CSA. One embodiment of the device includes a blower (60), a mask (64) with a gas exit (66), a tube (62) connected between the blower, and the mask.
