A mixture of KCl and kieserite is obtained by electrostatic separation of hard salt for use as a feedstock which may be treated in on eof 3 ways:- (1) feedstock is ground to 90% less than 0.09 mm., dissolved in sulphate liquor and converted to a K/Mg double SO4, KCl (sat. aq.) is added, the precipitate removed and the sulphate liquor is recirculated, (2) feedstock is heated to 200 degrees C-450 degrees C and the KCl + anhydrous MgSO4 obtained is converted to a KCl containing schonite, and (3) the feedstock is melted at 600-800 degrees C. After cooling it is ground and separated. |
