1,246,103. Cutting wood. BELOIT CORP. 31 Oct., 1968 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 51731/68. Heading B5L. [Also in Division B8] A slasher for logs comprises a flat blade member 56 with a downwardly directed knife-edge 58a secured at its sides to cylinders 52, 54 slidably mounted on the pistons of a pair of piston-rods 32, 34 affixed to a support 30, the arrangement being such that when fluid is introduced into the cylinders 52, 54 below the pistons the blade is forced downwardly to coact with a fixed blade member 64 to cut the logs. As described, the rods 32, 34 have axial bores through which fluid is introduced into the cylinders above or below the pistons from hoses 50 or 44 to raise or lower the blade member 56. The blade member 56 is detachably secured to the cylinders 52, 54 so that it may be inverted to bring a second knife-edge 58b thereof into the operative position. The logs are fed to the slasher by a clamp mechanism reciprocated towards and away from the slasher by a chain, or by an articulated boom and grapple.
|
