PURPOSE: A manual wheelchair wheel and an apparatus for controlling the same are provided, in which the manual wheelchair wheel is driven forward and backward and has a shift function. CONSTITUTION: A manual wheelchair wheel comprises: a central axis(10) which is installed not to be rotated about the vehicle body; an input member which is combined with a handrim and revolves together; an output member which is combined with the wheel and revolves together; a plurality of planetary gear(22) installed at one of the input member and output member; one or more sun gears(23) which go in gear with the planetary gear; a planetary gear row; a transmission clutch linked to the sun gear; a direct clutch.
