The method involves adapting a series variable resistor (31) of an oscillating circuit of a terminal based on an empty value when a transponder is present within a range of the terminal. The empty value depends on operation of the terminal when the transponder is not in field of the terminal, and is characteristics of current in the oscillating circuit of the terminal. The variable resistor is serially connected with a fixed resistor (32) of the oscillating circuit of the terminal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a terminal comprising an oscillating circuit equipped with a phase control loop and a switchable resistor circuit (2) an active transponder comprising a transmitting unit for transmitting information about charge level of a battery to a terminal.
