Ion gun casing comprises an internal surface to cover outlet of an ion gun. The internal surface of the gun is formed of a material having a spraying efficiency of less than 0.6 with argon ions incident to energy of 600 eV, and is formed by a coating deposited on a substrate. Independent claims are included for: (1) a device for depositing a material in a multilayer stack comprising low and high refractive index layers and a hydrophobic layer by vacuum evaporation; and (2) a process for depositing a material in a multilayer stack comprising low and high refractive index layers and a hydrophobic layer by vacuum evaporation.
