In a state alternately overlapping one another, multiple rotation-side brake plates (47) and multiple non-rotation-side brake plates (48) are arranged in a brake case (32) further outwards in the radial direction than a motor shaft (25). Of these rotation-side brake plates (47) and non-rotation-side brake plates (48), a friction material (48B) is provided only on the non-rotation-side brake plates (48). By this means, the disclosed wet brake device allows the rotation-side brake plates (47) to be lighter-weight and reduces drag resistance of the rotation-side brake plates (47) which rotate even when the brakes are released.
