An endoscope is provided with: a bending operation input unit which has a bending operation inputting part for bending a bending part and which is attached to an operation main body in a detachable manner; and an actuation part which is disposed on the bending operation inputting unit and in which the actuation state varies in accordance with the bending operation performed by means of the bending operation inputting part. Moreover, the endoscope is provided with: an actuation state detecting part which is disposed on the operation main body while being electrically insulated from the actuation part and which detects the actuation state of the actuation part; and a bending operation detecting part which detects, on the basis of the actuation state of the actuation part detected by means of the actuation state detecting part, the bending operation performed by means of the bending operation inputting part.
