PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for degrading and removing various hardly degradable organic matters, which remain in water, at a low cost and improved efficiency using the biological Fenton reaction.
SOLUTION: This method, which is a water treatment method using an aquatic plant, is characterized by comprising growing the aquatic plant in water to be treated, the water containing hardly degradable organic matters, under light irradiation, and, in the presence of ferrous or ferric ion, conducting the biological Fenton reaction between the water and hydrogen peroxide existing in the aquatic plant body to thereby oxidize and degrade the hardly degradable organic matters. In this method, a substance capable of generating ferrous or ferric ion is added to the water so as to induce the Fenton reaction with hydrogen peroxide in the aquatic plant. As the aquatic plant, Spirodela polyrhiza, Lemna paucicostata, Ceratophyllum demersum, willow moss, Amazon frogbit and so on can be used.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
