[Also in Division C3] Shaped articles such as fibres, tapes and films made of compositions comprising 99 to 75 weight per cent of a high polymer and 1 to 25 weight per cent of a basic polyamide obtained by reacting a polyamine with an acrylic or methacrylic ester, are dyed with acid, premetallised and disperse dyes. Dyeing with acid and premetallised dyes may be effected in baths containing alkyl phenol/ethylene oxide condensates or sodium salt of N- oleyl-N-methyl taurine as surfactant, with the addition of acetic acid to improve bath exhaustion; and dyeing with disperse dyes in the presence of surfactant and ammonium acetate. The high polymer may be a polyolefin, polystyrene, acrylic or vinyl polymer, polyester or polyamide. The polyamide component may be insolubilised by treatment with an epoxide, isocyanate, aldehyde or divinyl benzene; and dyeability may be enhanced by treatment with an acid. Examples describe the dyeing of fibres formed from compositions comprising polypropylene and polyamides formed from methyl acrylate and (1 and 2) aminoethylpiperazine, (3) ethylene diamine, (5) ethylene diamine and hexamethylene diamine, (6) tetraethylene pentamine, (7) diethylene triamine, (8) hexamethylene diamine, (9) hexamethylene diamine and diethylene triamine, (10) hexamethylene diamine and aminoethyl piperazine, (11) ethylene diamine and aminoethyl piperazine, (12) diethylene triamine and aminoethyl piperazine, (13) ethylene diamine and diethylene triamine, (14) piperazine and (15) dibutyl hexamethylene diamine and aminoethyl piperazine; from ethyl acrylate and (4) aminoethyl piperazine; and from methyl methacrylate and (16) diethylene triamine.</p> |
