METHOD OF SELECTING PREFERABLE HUE FOR OPTIMIZING COLOR REPRODUCTION OF COLOR IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of selecting a preferable hue for optimizing color reproduction of a color image.

SOLUTION: The invention provides a method which is implemented in a color reproduction system of a color image including a data processing device having a non-volatile memory for storing a computer program and a processor for executing the program. The program includes a program code which is set so that the data processing device executes processing to optimize color reproduction of a color image. The processing comprises a step of finding multiple preferable hue angles for one memory color; a step of obtaining a maximum chroma value of the hue for each of the multiple preferable hue angles; a step of selecting two chroma points at a predetermined percentage of the maximum chroma value; a step of integrating a lightness function of chroma over a range between the two chroma points and calculating an area below a curve of the function; and a step of selecting one preferable color hue angle to be used as a target of color gamut mapping for the memory color based on the calculation result of the area.
