<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifugal pump capable of enhancing self-priming performance and cooling performance of a mechanical seal, while restraining a thrust load. <P>SOLUTION: In this centrifugal pump 15, a crankshaft 18 is projected in a case 21 via the mechanical seal 41, an impeller 23 is arranged on the projected crankshaft 18, and a plurality of opening parts 27 are formed in a hub 24 of the impeller 23. The opening parts 27 are set smaller in a distance R1 up to the rotational center 26 from an upstream side end part 27a than a distance R2 up to the rotational center 26 from a downstream side end part 27b.
