<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature protection device capable of protecting a semiconductor element from an overheat state while enhancing the accuracy for determining the overheat state of the semiconductor element. <P>SOLUTION: A temperature protection device has: temperature detection means for detecting a temperature of a semiconductor element; temperature estimation means for estimating the temperature of the semiconductor element; overheat state determination means for determining an overheat state of the semiconductor element using a detected temperature detected by the temperature detection means and an estimated temperature detected by the temperature estimation means; and overheat protection means for protecting the semiconductor element from the overheat state based on a determination result by the overheat state determination means. The overheat state determination means determines that the semiconductor element is in the overheat state by using a first estimated temperature at a time point when the detected temperature reaches a first threshold temperature and a second estimated temperature estimated after the time point when the detected temperature reaches the first threshold temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
