The method involves manufacturing a near-net-shape premolded gear tooth system (2) by massive deforming of a blank using a lower die. The blank is heated at a selected temperature. The heated blank is deformed to a shaft (1) by a form press. A transition of a shaft head (12) to an axle shaft (11) is formed as rounded-off. The shaft head is punched in an area of the gear tooth system at a front side in a parabolic manner. The blank is fixed between upper and lower forging plates. The blank is utilized by forward extruding pressing in an extruding press die for producing the axle shaft. An independent claim is also included for a shaft.
