<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization conversion element which can convert circular polarization into azimuth polarization without a dielectric film, and a method for manufacturing the polarization conversion element with excellent productivity. <P>SOLUTION: The polarization conversion element converting right-hand circular polarization into azimuth polarization, includes a plurality of 1/4 wavelength plates shaped in a triangular prism and having both main faces shaped in isosceles triangle. Where an angle formed by two equal sides in one of the main faces of the 1/4 wavelength plate is an apex angle, a point where two equal sides in the one of the main faces of the 1/4 wavelength plate is an apex, and a side connecting two equal sides in the one of the main faces of the 1/4 wavelength plate is a bottom side, the optical axis of the 1/4 wavelength plate is provided at a position where a perpendicular line drawn from the apex to the bottom line is rotated on the face by 45° in the counterclockwise direction when viewed from the emission side. The side faces of the 1/4 wavelength plates are joined with each other so that the total of the apex angles of the 1/4 wavelength plate is 360°, to be formed into a regular polygonal column shape in which each of the main faces become a regular polygon. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
