<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a touch panel device which does not need a complicated circuit and calculation and can improve location accuracy in an environment where temperature change is remarkable. <P>SOLUTION: The touch panel device comprises: active areas 1a, 7a which are provided on a movable side transparent substrate 1 and a fixed side transparent substrate 7 respectively and which are formed of rectangular conductive films; electrodes 2 provided at facing end parts of the active areas 1a, 7a; a control substrate 9 for generating potential gradient at the active areas 1a, 7a; routing patterns 3 for connecting the electrodes 2 and the control substrate 9.
