Disclosed is a fuel cell with improved long-term durability. The disclosed fuel cell is constituted from: a membrane electrode assembly including a polymer electrolyte membrane, electrode layers arranged on both sides of said electrolyte membrane, and gas diffusion layers arranged on the sides of said electrode layers opposite of said electrolyte membrane; a gas seal material disposed around said membrane electrode assembly; and a separator holding these. The fuel cell is formed so as to include a peroxide decomposition catalyst immobilized on a carrier.
