The vibration damper has a housing (1) which is made of metallic material and is filled with damping liquid (2). A rotatable ring (4) is provided within the housing in circumferential direction (3). The rotatable ring is connected with drive unit (7) which is provided with thermal expansion element (8). The shear gap (5) of variable thickness (6) is limited with the housing.
