<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging method that enables more accurate auto-focusing and yields improved color reproducibility of captured image data. <P>SOLUTION: Light from a sample 101 is guided to an imaging unit 110 by an optical path A and guided to an AF unit 112 by an optical path B. The light guided to the AF unit 112 is divided and guided to an optical path C and an optical path D. The focus of the imaging unit 110 is adjusted so that the image of the sample 101 with the light from the sample 101 guided to the optical path A is formed on the imaging surface of the imaging unit 110, based on the difference in contrast between the light guided to the optical path C and projected onto a first plane surface and the light guided to the optical path D and projected onto the first plane surface. The image of the sample 101 is captured to produce image data by using the light guided to the imaging unit 110. The spectral information for the sample 101 is detected using the light guided to the AF unit 112.
