<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control technique for an automatic transmission that can properly detect a failure even when the automatic transmission is controlled to a neutral state during traveling. <P>SOLUTION: An automatic transmission control ECU which is capable of achieving a plurality of gear positions having different gear ratios according to the engagement state of a plurality of frictional engagement elements includes: a neutral controller which implements neutral control, which puts the automatic transmission in a neutral state, by reducing the engagement force for at least one frictional engagement element when traveling conditions, including that a vehicle accelerator is not being operated, have been established when the vehicle is moving forward and any one gear position has been implemented; a gear ratio identifier which identifies the actual gear ratio; and a first breakdown determiner which determines whether the automatic transmission has broken down, on the basis of the actual gear ratio when neutral control is being implemented. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
