<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system software interface that can release a storage area when the storage area becomes unnecessary as a temporary file is released, a movement source of a file is released, and so on for a storage device that employs a space optimization method like thin provisioning. <P>SOLUTION: The interface is provided in a hypervisor of a virtualized computer system so that the hypervisor can discover features of a logical unit number (LUN) such as whether the LUN is supplied thinly, and further in a virtual machine (VM) of the virtualized computer system so that the VM can discover features of a virtual disk such as whether the virtual disk is supplied thinly. The discovery of these features enables the hypervisor or the VM to instruct the underlying storage device to carry out certain operations such as an operation to deallocate blocks previously allocated to a logical block device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
