<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for olefin polymerization containing a transition metal compound excellent in polymerization activity of olefin and copolymerizability when copolymerization is carried out, and a method for producing an olefin polymer performed in the presence of the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for olefin polymerization includes the transition metal compound expressed by general formula (I), and preferably includes at least one compound selected from compounds which react with an organometallic compound, an organoaluminumoxy compound and the transition metal compound to form a pair of ions.
