ALKALINE PRIMARY BATTERY

An alkaline primary battery comprises: a positive electrode (2) containing manganese dioxide; an alkaline electrolyte solution containing zinc oxide; a gel-like negative electrode (3) containing zinc alloy powder, an alkaline electrolyte solution, and a gelling agent; and a negative electrode collector (6) inserted in the gel-like negative electrode. The gel-like negative electrode (3) has a predetermined ductility, and the ductility of the gel-like negative electrode (3) is such that when 4.0 g of the gel-like negative electrode (3) is molded into a cylindrical shape having a diameter of 15 mm, a load of 200 g is placed on the molded gel-like negative electrode (3) with a 10-g flat plate interposed therebetween to cause the gel-like negative electrode to spread, and the top surface of the spread-out gel-like negative electrode (3) is approximated with a circle, the diameter of the circle is 24-36 mm.
