1324333 Flexible pipe couplings INDUSTRIE-WERKE KARLSRUHE AUGSBURG AG 24 July 1970 [6 Sept 1969] 36056/70 Headings F2G and F2P A flexible connector for pipes comprises a synthetic inner tube resistant to erosion and/or corrosion within a pressure resisting reinforcement, terminal flanges at the ends of the tube, and axially inextensible linkage means interconnecting the end flanges and being arranged to allow pivotal movement about an axis transverse to the tube axis. As shown in Fig. 6, the pivot axis is defined by pins 4 which interconnect linkage rods 3, 3a secured to respective flanges 2, 2a. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 8, the pivot axis may pass through one of the end flanges, the linkage of rods 7 being arranged in ball-and-socket engagement with the said flanges. The reinforcement member may be a bellows of thin metal having its convolutions held in contact by compression between the flanges. Alternatively a plurality of circumferential rings having a U-shaped cross-section may be in endto-end contact between the flanges. Solid washers may be substituted for the rings, or a wire helix having abutting convolutions may be used. Where a bellows is used as reinforcement the space between the bellows and the inner tube may be used to monitor the fluid tightness of the tube. |
