PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compact, low cost and high-definition display device and picture projecting device by securing the efficient deviation of an optical path. SOLUTION: This display device has an optical path modulation means consisting of a polarized light modulation element 106 and an optical path polarization optical element 107 functioning to modulate the optical path for either polarized light of illuminating light from a light source 101, and a reflection type picture display element 105 provided in the emitting optical path of the optical path modulation means. The display device realizes the high- definition picture by emitting image light whose optical path is not modulated and image light whose optical path is modulated time-sequentially by operating the modulation element 106 or the optical element 107 in synchronization with the picture display timing of the display element 105. |
