<p>The metallic wire is brought to a positive potential with respect to a massive counter electrode placed in front of it, the potential being sufficient to strike an arc between them. This causes the release of heat onto the wire tip causing fusion of the tip and the formation of a molten drop which is afterwards solidified to form the expanded portion. Used for tie wires for needles of combustible material for Na cooled nuclear reactors.</p> |
