Acrylonitrile textile fibres, acrylonitrile content at least 85% by weight an initial shrinkage temp. of at least 145 deg.C and a max. shrinkage force factor of no more than 9, produced by washing and drawing freshly spun acrylonitrile filaments to 120-400%, pref. 120-300%, of their as-spun length and subjected to plasticising conditions for at least 0.5 second under restraint of at least 5 mg. per denier to relax the filament 2-40% pref. 15-40% of their as-drawn length. If desired, the relaxed filament may be mechanically crimped and converted to staple fibre. Production of wool-like fibres for knitting. Pills are not developed on surface of knitted garments. Improved finish without use of lubricating and slip-proofing finishes which are removed by repeated washing or dry-cleaning. Can be used for production of high bulk yarns. |
