<p>An auxiliary motor assembly 20 for a manually propelled wheelchair comprises: a crossbar 32 which is mounted to a frame 22a,b of the wheelchair; a motor 36 with wheels 38a,b; and a motor mount bracket 34 which is coupled to the motor 36 and is used to detachably clamp the motor to the crossbar 32. The motor mount bracket includes back plate 66 coupled to the motor and a rotatable front plate 68 attached to the back plate by a hinge [90, Figure 3]. The back and front plates of the motor assembly are capable of clamping on to the crossbar 32 after the crossbar has been attached to the wheelchair. The crossbar further includes collars that center the drive wheels 38a, 38b to the wheelchair when the motor is attached to the crossbar. The crossbar may be of telescopic construction with a first part 40 slidably received in second part 42. A knob 106 with threaded shaft [102, Figure 4B] may be used to secure the clamping plates against the crossbar.</p> |
