1,271,209. Indicator for copper ions. MERCK PATENT G.m.b.H. 30 Oct., 1970 [7 Aug., 1970], No. 51683/70. Heading B1X. Copper ions are detected by an indicator comprising an absorbent carrier impregnated with a complex-forming agent for cuprous ions, hydroxylammonium chloride and/or ascorbic acid as a reducing agent, a buffer, and an emulsifier and/or wetting agent having a polyalkylene oxide base. The complex-forming agent may be cuproin neocuproin, bathocuproin or the disodium salt of bathocuproin sulphonic acid. The agents may be in the form of their hydrochlorides. The buffer (specified) may be any common weak organic or inorganic acid, their alkali metal salts or mixtures. thereof. The pH is preferably 2.3 which may be achieved by the addition of e.g. sodium hydroxide. The emulsifier and/or wetting agent (specified) may be anionic or non-ionic. If molybdenum ions are present potassium permanganate and hydroxylammonium chloride are added before testing as a mask. The carrier may be attached to strips of resin, paper or metal. |
