PURPOSE: A general receiver and a pattern recognition method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by reducing a main processor or a controller operation. CONSTITUTION: An edge extraction unit(400) generates edge information including time information related to detected edge. A pattern recognition unit(500) stores edge information in a register. The recognition unit reads out gap time information from a control register after detecting edge which is matched with a reference pattern. The pattern recognition unit determines edge which is detected within blank time as a temporary edge.
