Provided are a method for preparing a metal oxide powder for slurry, and a metal oxide powder prepared by the method which changes form of the metal oxide power into a spherical form and prevents the agglomeration of powder. The method comprises the steps of (S1) firstly heat-treating a metal precursor and pulverizing the heat treated one to prepare a metal oxide powder; and (S2) secondly heat-treating the metal oxide powder at a temperature lower than the first heat treatment temperature to modify the metal oxide powder. Preferably the first heat treatment temperature is 600-1,000 deg.C; and the second heat treatment temperature is lower than the first heat treatment temperature by 0-250 deg.C. The diameter of the metal oxide powder increases by 10 % or less by the modification.
