PURPOSE: A loop current measurement apparatus of a distribution automation system and a method thereof are provided to automatically estimate a load increase state due to current flow while connecting two distribution lines. CONSTITUTION: A loop current measurement apparatus of a distribution automation system comprises an input part(110), an output part(120), a controller(130), a storage part(140), a current flow calculation part(150), a loop current calculation part(160), and a loop state determination part(170). The input part receives a value measured in each distribution line arranged on end parts of a normal open point switch device according to the control of the device. The current flow calculation part calculates current flow of the end parts of the normal open point switch device. The loop current calculation part calculates a power value due to a loop current generated in the both end parts of the normal open point switch device. The loop state determination part determines a loop state from a result value by comparing the power value with a threshold value.
