The device (8) has an embarked diagnosis module (28) that diagnoses ageing of a catalyzed particle filter (12) from a quantity of oxygen at an inlet and an outlet of the particle filter. The module triggers a warning of a user if predetermined large pollutant threshold is crossed. The filter is impregnated with oxygen storage capacity (OSC) material whose capacity to store oxygen decreases correlatively with the ageing of the filter, where an initial quantity of the material is sufficient to store 50 mg of oxygen per liter of the filter when the warning is triggered. The filter converts carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from an internal combustion engine (4) into carbon dioxide, water or nitrogen. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for embarked diagnosis of ageing of a catalyzed particle filter (2) an information recording medium comprising a set of instructions for embarked diagnosis of ageing of a catalyzed particle filter.
