A parking assistance device generates a display overhead image which clearly displays on a monitor a region for which attention is required when parking a vehicle. The parking assistance device comprises: an overhead image generating unit which generates an overhead image, which is treated as a display image of the periphery of a host vehicle which is displayed on a monitor (21) via a viewpoint conversion from a photographed image; a parking path generation device which generates a parking path; an image composition unit which composites a host vehicle image at the location of the host vehicle in an overhead image which is obtained by trimming the overhead image and generates a display overhead image; a region for attention determination unit which determines a region for attention which requires attention when parking along the parking path; and a trimming condition information generation unit which generates trimming condition information whereby the host vehicle image is offset from the center of the display image in order to include the region for attention in the display overhead image and applies said trimming condition information to an image trimming unit.
