FUEL CELL SYSTEM AND OPERATIONAL METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a fuel cell system capable of preventing deterioration in a polymer electrolyte membrane of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell operated under low humidification conditions with a simplified constitution; and an operational method of the fuel cell system.

SOLUTION: A fuel cell system 101A includes: a polymer electrolyte fuel cell 1; a hydrogen generator 2; an oxidant gas supply device 3 supplying oxidant gas to a cathode 1b of the fuel cell 1; a burner 4 burning combustion fuel gas with combustion air to generate water-containing combustion exhaust gas and supplying heat required for a steam reforming reaction to the hydrogen generator 2 by the burning; and combustion exhaust gas supply mechanism 5 constituted such that the combustion exhaust gas generated by the burner 4 is supplied to the cathode 1b of the fuel cell 1 in a startup operation of the fuel cell system 101A.
