A chimney draft excluder comprising a draft excluding plate insertable in a chimney flue in which the draft excluding plate is made up of a deformable skirt adapted to conform to the size and/or shape of the chimney flue to close the flue, the draft excluder also including a failsafe mechanism in the event that a fire is inadvertently lit with the chimney draft excluder in situ.
