PURPOSE: A backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device is provided to place a light guide plate with a reflecting pattern on a non light incident unit. CONSTITUTION: A light guide plate(LG) has a hexahedral panel shape. A light incident surface(S1) of the light guide plate faces a light source(LS). An opposite light incident surface(S2) of the light guide plate faces the light incident surface. A side reflecting pattern is formed on the opposite light incident surface. An upper surface(S6) of the light guide plate is vertical to the light incident surface. A lower surface(S5) of the light guide plate faces the upper surface. An optical film faces the upper surface. A reflecting film faces the lower surface.
