<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polyvinyl acetal that produces polyvinyl acetal with a low degree of polymerization almost without causing any reaction inhibition and coarsening of particles, and to provide polyvinyl acetal produced using the method for producing polyvinyl acetal. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing polyvinyl acetal includes: a step 1 of achieving a low degree of polymerization of polyvinyl alcohol by bringing the polyvinyl alcohol into contact with hydrogen peroxide in an acidic solution containing a transition metal ion; and a step 2 of performing acetalization of the polyvinyl alcohol with a low degree of polymerization produced in the step 1 by reacting the polyvinyl alcohol with aldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
