<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion estimation method that omits unnecessary SAD calculation when performing motion estimation in video encoding. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided: SAD calculation means 1 that calculates a SAD between a video block X<SP POS="POST">(c,r)</SP>in a current frame FR1 and a video block Y<SP POS="POST">(c,r)</SP>in a searching range S<SP POS="POST">(c)</SP>in a reference frame FR2; an interrupt signal 17 to interrupt the SAD calculation as to the Y<SP POS="POST">(c,r)</SP>when an intermediate SAD value exceeds a threshold during the SAD calculation; an interrupt signal 18 to interrupt the SAD calculation as to the Y<SP POS="POST">(c,r)</SP>when the intermediate SAD value exceeds the SAD minimum value having been so far calculated during the SAD calculation; and an interrupt signal 19 to omit the SAD calculation as to other video blocks in the searching range S<SP POS="POST">(c)</SP>when the calculated SAD value is smaller than the other threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
