Protection riders for pusher furnace slide rails

Pusher furnace for the heat treatment of ingots etc. where the charge is pushed through the furnace on slide rails provided in it, and where the heat is applied both from the top and bottom, is equipped with a slide rail in contact with the charge the surface of which is modified as follows: In the entry zone the water cooled pipe forming the slide rail is covered with rider elements comprising prismatic blocks for supporting the workpiece. They are fitted on mountings so as to protrude centrally upwards from them. Whilst not being heat insulated against the workpiece an insulating layer may be provided between the rail and the block. In the remaining hotter furnace zones free standing refractory support blocks are employed as riders. Any holders provided for them must not be load bearing and create an envelope round them. The above arrangements provides both thermal and wear protection for the slide rail and permits easy changeover of any worn support element.
