NICKEL CATALYST SUPPORTED ON XEROGEL ALUMINA AND METHOD FOR AMNUFACTURING THE SAME, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING METHANE USING SAID CATALYST

PURPOSE: A nickel catalyst supported in xerogel alumina, a method for preparing the same, and a method for preparing methane using the catalyst are provided to improve the conversion rate of carbon monoxide and the selectivity to methane by applying the catalyst to the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide. CONSTITUTION: A nickel catalyst supported in xerogel alumina includes 100 parts by weight of xerogel alumina support and 1-30 parts by weight of nickel. The xerogel alumina is prepared by the following: an aluminum precursor is dissolved in an alcohol solvent at a temperature between 50 and 80 degrees Celsius to form a solution; the dissolved alumina precursor is hydrated and condensed using the mixed solution of water, acid, and an alcohol solvent to form sol; the sol is cooled to a room temperature and is hydrated and condensed using the mixed solution of water and the alcohol solvent to form gel; the gel is aged; and the aged gel is dried and/or plasticized.
