Provided is a process for producing an optically active amino compound, which is a compound useful as an intermediate for a medicine, an agrochemical or the like, from a ketone compound with high efficiency. A polypeptide which has high resistance to a water-soluble organic solvent and has such a novel aminotransferase activity that (S)-1-benzyl-3-pyrrolidinone can be produced at an optical purity of as high as 93% or more; a gene which encodes the polypeptide; and a transformant which can express the gene at a high level.
